Look! Up in the sky! It’s a bird! It’s a plane!

No, it’s the people in your organization that performs selfless acts to help others become better selves in their lives, family and community. These super heroes work tirelessly in your organization. When a need arises they spring into action by putting in the extra effort to improve situations, become a role model, working feverishly to solve problems, and giving what’s left in their pockets to help someone in need.

Now, it’s time to unmask these super heroes and thank them for their hard work and dedication.

The CTK Foundation “Heroes with a Heart” Grant Award asks YOU to nominate a “Hero with a Heart,” and give them a chance to win $5,000 - a simple thanks for the hard work that they do.

WHAT ARE THE DETAILS OF THE ”HEROES WITH A HEART” GRANT?

It was as if they had been holding out on what many are promising will be 2012’s hot ticket in the social networking space.

Of the 16 people Pinterest said I knew who were already using the site, 14 were women. Over the course of the first day, five more women I know added me and I suddenly felt like I had ventured behind some secret curtain. That is not surprising: in December, Mashable reported that 59 percent of the site’s visitors were women between the ages of 25 and 44, and that 58 percent of its visitors in the previous 12 weeks had been female.

Pinterest is a visual pin board where you can collect images you find on the Web and arrange them in categories with links back to the original site. It’s been described as being like a binder or folder that you use to store everything you clip from magazines and newspapers, but you have the added advantage of seeing what all of the people you are connected to have been clipping and saving.

36 Ways to Use Social Media for Social Good

36 Ways to Use Social Media for Social Good :
Talking about using social media for social good is almost becoming a cliche. Did you ever...

The Shirt You Wear Can Support Global Social Good

Did you ever dream that a by simply purchasing a t-shirt that you could:

Give one week of education to one child?

Plant three new trees in a forestation project?

Save eight animals from being euthanized?

Give one person clean water for one year?

Give 20 children a meal?

Well, you can. During the MAGIC trade show in Las Vegas, we discovered This Shirt Helps, a new apparel brand dedicated to facilitate social change starting on a micro level. The brand believes that by enabling its customers to buy a quality staple wardrobe piece that they wear on a regular basis, they can show them how small contributions can start an international movement.

“We refuse to accept the premise that it takes great wealth or huge amounts of time to change the world,” says Joe Huff, director of positivity, This Shirt Helps. ”Instead, we believe that change begins with one person doing one good thing. Just think, if you buy one shirt you save an animal… and three other people like you do the same thing 9 trees are planted…10 more people follow your lead, a child goes to school for half a year…20 more and a whole lot of people have access to safe, clean water for a year… Buying one shirt really can change a life.”

The causes that This Shirt Helps benefit are Pencils For Promise, The Humane Society Veterinary Medical Association, ASPCA, PLANT with PURPOSE and WAVES for WATER (in partnership with Hurley). Shoppers are also encourage to submit their own causes for support on the What’s Your Cause? section of the site.

[Infographic]

With the increasing number of businesses using social media, there’s now great focus on the role of being a social strategist.

But who are the persons in this type of job and what does it take? That is what the infographic below tries to answer.

I found the infographic on Mashable. It’s called “Social Media for the Career Minded”, and it portrays the personality, education, career paths and responsibilities of today’s successful social media strategists.

What it takes for a strategist
As stated in the infographic, 79% of corporations now use some aspect of social media, and naturally this also means that there’s more need for employees working with social media. Companies are on the look for profiles that can manage and foster the relationship online to customers. Therefore, I think this infographic can be interesting for both brands and potential employees to take a look at. It creates an overview of what characteristics that are important to consider when hiring a social strategist, and thereby what skills are required for the applicant.

For example, it’s first of all the responsibility for a social strategist to evangelize a new initiative. It’s crucial for the person to be able to develop a strategy and a plan and manage a team that can be on board in the process. Having an eye on competitors and trends is something that takes up time as well, since you need to make sure that you are different from other players in the field. And this is only to mention some of the job responsibilities of a social strategist! As it says in the infographic, for social strategists that are able to look forward, adapt to and adopt new technologies and forms of online communication, and see how these can be integrated into their businesses at multiple touch points, their future looks very bright.
